OVERVIEW

Never been cross country skiing? Ready for an amazing workout with beautiful snowy scenery? White Grass is one of the best places on the east coast for cross country skiing, offering 50km of trails right next to Dolly Sods, easy classes, and an awesome cafe for lunch.

Check out www.whitegrass.com for more background info.

Here’s our game plan:
-3:00 pm Friday 2/14 – Meet at the wall outside of Echols to gather gear and arrange carpools
-7:00 pm – Meet at White Grass, WV (approx. 3 hour drive)
-7:30 pm – Free, guided, full moon cross-country ski
-9:00 pm – Dinner at Hellbender Burritos in Davis, WV ($10)
-10:00 pm – Head to the place we’re sleeping — I’m still getting the details of this worked out, but it looks like our options are either to camp or to stay in a lodge such as the one at Blackwater Falls State Park or the Purple Fiddle Guest House (http://www.purplefiddle.com/roost.html) or other similar places. Camping would obviously be cheaper or free, but if I can work out lodging for around $25/person or less, it might be worth getting out of the cold.
-Saturday 2/15 – Get some more XC skiing time in at White Grass ($20 day pass if skiing, another $15 if you need to rent gear — note that we have a lot of XC skis that can be borrowed from the gear room), eat at the cafe or pack lunch.
-5:00 or 6:00 pm -Return to Cville in the evening.

What you need to bring:
-Warm, waterproof gear similar to what you’d wear while skiing or snowboarding. It will probably be pretty cold outside, but you’ll get warm, so aim for layers (thermal base layer, fleece, coat, wool socks, waterproof pants, hat, gloves).
-XC skis if ya got ’em, otherwise the club has some and there are rentals.
-$$ for food, lodging, etc
-Snacks and water for Saturday
-Overnight stuff, sleeping bag if a room fills up
