Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Furnace Mountain- Shenandoah
I am leading a trip out to Shenandoah National Park to do some overnight backpacking Saturday/Sunday.
The drive is under an hour and very nice. We’ll head out and hit the trail. Camp somewhere cool. Hike out and come home. Departure and return times can change so if you are interested but need to leave earlier or come back earlier, email me and we can possibly figure something out. Depending on how many people come, the trip may cost 5$ for park entrance fees or be free, because I have an annual pass for one carload.
I don’t see many backpacking trips so I thought I’d do one. I am an experienced backpacker and will incorporate teaching advanced navigation and first aid skills should anyone want to learn. We’ll be hiking furnace mountain. There are a few trails in that area of Brown’s Gap so we can decide on distance when we all get together.
THIS TRIP WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR ANYONE. We aren’t thru-hiking so it will be nice and relaxed. There will be many scenic views depending on the routes we take.
You will need your own clothing and personal gear (whatever can’t be checked out that you need). Please bring 4-5 liters of water depending on your size. The club will take care of food for Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast. We’ll have some snacks for the afternoon and morning hikes also. We’ll check out sleeping bags, pads, and tents, especially, for anyone who needs them.
Weather providing, we’ll sleep under the stars like kings.
Remember that the club pays for gas + 30%. You could make money backpacking.
The Fee is listed as $0 but we may have to pay a couple of dollars each to get into the park.
