Getting Nutty in the Gardens

OVERVIEW

Hey friends, anyone else see all these WONDROUS acorns joshing up and down trees and wanna channel their inner squirrel?? Wanna unite in appreciation for the wondrous nut (2,000 of which come off an adult Oak each year!!!!) and hail the ever-powerful acorn by processing them into deliciously nutty foodstuffs, as ancestors across the northern hemisphere have done for centuries and many native tribes continue to do????

We will be channeling both our inner squirrel AND HUMAN because according to herbalist John Slattery, humans be thriving off acorns for sooooo long. If you were to take a table and lay out each of the foodstuffs human beings hath ever consumed in individual piles on said table, acorns would be the largest pile. That’s probably a very large pile.

So let’s add to that pile!!! We shall gather Sunday afternoon to ID a few Oaks and collect them acorns, then migrate to a garden whence we shall commence in shelling said nuts, leaching the tannins outta them so they’re less bitter (no acorns are poisonous so no need to worry about anything serious), then grinding into wondrous ACORN FLOURRRR. Ideally we’ll all leave with acorn flour if desired to then transform into foodstuffs, but you’re also welcome to stop by for the first part if collecting acorns + cracking nuts floats yo boat but you’re not as psyched about the alchemy of tannin reduction.

SO HERE’S DA PLAN:
4PM: Gather at Clark Hall, pronounce about for acorns until 4:30ish
4:30: set up camp at garden or Grace’s porch, start cracking and sorting and preparing for leaching
5-6:30ish: Hot leach them nutmeats then grind into a flour!

Your wonderful self
Large and shapely vessel to carry acorns and/or to carry acorn flour home!!
Rock fit for nut-cracking if you so happen to possess one that wants some action (we shall provide hammers and Grace’s fancy nut cracker too!!)
An affinity for nuttiness

We CANNOT WAITTTTT to immerse ourselves in the nut with all you wondrous people.
