OVERVIEW

It’s finals season and I need an overnight escape in the woods. Enter the Gittin’ Pickled Cabin, a beautiful getaway 0.6 miles east of the AT. Mcafee’s Knob, Dragon’s Tooth, and Tinker cliffs trailheads just minutes away with a car.

This is definitely glamping- the cabin has bunk beds, potable drinking water, a fire pit, toilet, hot water with a shower, kitchen equipment, and yes, *WIFI* in case you need to do any extra studying or submitting work in the middle of our woodsy retreat. There’s even a microwave and a fridge. If you want to check out the cabin and its amenities, here it the hip camp link for it:

Our first day, we can get in, unpack, get comfy in our cozy cabin, and explore our campsite, which is right on Miller Cove. This is an area once occupied by a small active community with lots of old structures and foundations to explore nearby. Then we can all share dinner and turn in early-ish for the next morning.

Since it is so close to a great variety of iconic hikes, we have a few options for what we want to explore on our second day. Personally, I want to go to Mcafee’s Knob or Dragon’s Tooth, probably decided depending on what the group wants to do most and on the weather. Both are moderate/hard hikes, but we will take our time hiking so I think anyone should be able to complete them. After our hike, we will pack up, head back to Charlottesville, and back into the world of stressing about finals.

THE PLAN:
DAY 1, Friday December 9th
1:00 PM- leave for our cabin, departure time is a little flexible
3:00 PM- arrive at Gittin’ Pickled cabin
After 3:00 PM- explore, have dinner, various shenanigans

DAY 2, Saturday December 10th
8:00 AM- Wakey wakey eggs n’ bacey, wake up time is also flexible, have breakfast, pack up camp, head out
9:00 AM- arrive at the trailhead of choice

DRAGON’S TOOTH OPTION:
9:00 AM- start hiking
12:00 PM- leave for Charlottesville
2:00 PM- arrive in Charlottesville

MCAFEE’S KNOB OPTION:
9:00 AM- start hiking
2:00 PM- leave for Charlottesville
4:00 PM- arrive in Charlottesville

TO BRING:
– Dinner for Friday
– Breakfast for Saturday morning
– Lunch for Saturday
– Sleeping bag OR sheets and a blanket/pillowcase
– Layers —> IT IS CHILLY AND WEIRD OUTSIDE. NO COTTON.
– Rain jacket in case of showers

– Water and snacks for hiking
– Headlamp
– Some toilet paper if you want it
– Any source of entertainment or other random things you want for the trip

I have a car so there is no need for a driver this trip. However, to pay for the cabin and help with reimbursement, this will cost each person $15, paid to me, for the cabin.
