Glade Creek & Kate’s Falls — Fast-Paced Sunday Nrge Hike

OVERVIEW

A tasty hello to all you rowdy, wonderful humans.

This is a lovely looking ~9 mile hike that follows Glade Creek: a tributary to the New River. The trail starts at or near the confluence of Glade Creek and the New River. From there we will hike 4 or 4.5 miles up to a short 0.2 mile side trail that give a view of the serene Kate’s Falls. From Kate’s Falls we will head back down the way we came to get to the trailhead again. Given that this is a long hike on the last day of NRGE, I hope to pace the hike pretty quickly (not crazy… just will be more than an amble for sure). Don’t get too worried by this! Just know you’re limits.

The route is supposedly quite lovely… apparently swimming holes abound so if anyone of you other brave souls fancy joining me for some experimental swims on the way back down, that’s definitely an option.

As a reminder, this is part of the New River Gorge Extravaganza megatrip. We will be departing from Ray’s Campground around 8:00am, but will be heading back to UVA straight after the hike. This means you need to be all packed up and ready to go by 8:00am on Sunday!!!! The trip is set to “end” at 6pm. This is simply when we are aiming to be back in Cville. That’s budgeting roughly 5 hours for the hike including lunch and potential swims.

There is no explicit free charged by us, but keep in mind that you are responsible for feeding yourself. We will facilitate this by making a run to a grocery store beforehand for those who need some #chow for the trail.

I am limiting this at 15 people so that we aren’t an irresponsibly large hiking party.

Note that if this is the only NRGE trip you will have gotten on, it might not make sense for you to join given that this hike is Sunday and almost all of the NRGE carpool to WV will occur Friday — or even Thursday.
