Going out on a high(top)

OVERVIEW

This weekend could be the last one in 2024 that I’m able to go to Shenandoah because of thanksgiving and finals and christmas, so I figured why not go out to break on a high note by going to Hightop? This out-and-back hike is 3.5 miles with 958 feet of elevation gain and is rated moderate according to AllTrails, so should be pretty straightforward with (hopefully) a rewarding view at the top.

Very general timeline:
10:30 AM: meet and depart from Echols
11:15: arrive at smith roach gap trailhead
12:30 PM: arrive at viewpoint near the summit
1:00 PM: begin descent
1:45: back at trailhead
2:30: back at Echols

Unfortunately I do not have a car so drivers are needed! If you have a car you will get priority and will also be eligible for gas reimbursement if you arrive at Echols with a full tank of gas. I will add more people to this trip if we get multiple drivers.

I have an America the Beautiful park pass, but since that will only cover one car, National Park passholders will ALSO get priority off the waitlist.

You Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots
– Plenty of water (better to bring too much than not enough)
– Snacks/lunch
– Layers: the forecast is calling for the low 50s
– A bag
– SNP Pass if you have one
I Bring:
– First aid kit
– My America the Beautiful pass
