Calling All Hominini!
I’m here to impart wisdom in the same manner my ancestors did for me.
If you don’t already know, climbing stuff is fun, and you should try it! Climbing trees is especially fun, and this one is no exception! It’s a beautiful specimen of a Deodar Cedar, and we’re going all the way to the top!
WARNING: This is not a beginner trip! The entrance and exit to this tree is difficult and requires significant upper body strength to do safely!
If you can’t do a pullup, this one probably isn’t for you yet. I’ll be leading other trips later next week that focus on the basics.
The Plan:
Meet at the LAWN SIDE of the Rotunda
Walk over to the garden that the tree is located in
Explain safety/staging for the top out (not a ton of room on the top, so we’ll be moving people around the tree)
Look at the entrance to the tree
Send! (we’ll get some pictures at the top)
de-send (descend)
Exit the tree
You will need:
Water bottle
Sturdy, closed toe shoes (tennis shoes work well)
Recommended but not required:
Helmet (climbing helmets available from the gear room)
Safety Glasses (bark chips in your eye on a descent –> not fun!)
