OVERVIEW

Yo! I’ve finally got a night off with some decent weather, so late-nights will be making a return! Les celebrate the completion (sort of?) of the first full week of classes back and stay up way too late.

If you’re new to the club or just otherwise somehow don’t already know the drill, here’s how these bad boys work-

We meet @ Echols at 10pm, scoot on up to Shenandoah and make the short trek to the Hawksbill viewing patio (usually summit ~11:45pm), and hangout for a couple hours soaking in the fresh air and doing whatever fun things feel right in the moment. Past late-night shenanigans have included but were not limited to: silent and contemplative stargazing seshes, dance parties blasting all your favorite middle school jamz, mountaintop hide-and-seek, and Waffle House stops on the way back. We typically hangout for an hour and a half or for as long as the group is feeling it, hike back down to the cars and arrive back in Cville no later than 3:30am. I’m hoping that doesn’t sound too weird by now.

The high and low temps for Wednesday in Luray (next to mountain) are 92 and 67, so it will likely be around 60 when we are up on the mountain, with whats looking right now like very little wind.

There is a slight chance of stray showers right now, which could very well mean there won’t be any rain at all, but it will at the very least probably be cloudy so any stargazing happening will likely be done looking down at the pretty land stars in Luray and the other various surrounding towns. In the event that it does rain, there is a shelter right next to the overlook with a picnic table that we can use to stay dry and play games or tell stories or whatever, or if anybody’s feelin it, and I imagine some of you goons would be, we can ~dance in the rain~.

Logistics: It will almost be a new moon so there will be next to no natural light, so everybody should have a light source (headlamp, phone etc.) to maximize safety. The drive is about ~1hr25min one way, and the hike is a little less than a mile and usually takes ~25min up, 20min down. You can read up a little more on the hike here:
