Slaughter Student Rec Center
This is an awesome opportunity to make new friends while challenging yourself on a high ropes course and in trust-based and other types of activities on the ground.
Here’s what the Eric Henkel, Poplar Ridge director, says about the experience: “The high ropes course at Poplar Ridge is an opportunity to challenge yourself as you climb between trees over sixty feet in the air. The day will begin with some warm-up activities and the opportunity to get to know some of the other people in the group. You will then progress to some basic trust activities to prepare you for your high course experience. After a short lesson in the technical use of the equipment necessary for the high course, you will proceed to the high course itself. The high course consists of 5 elements suspended between trees using cables, logs, and ropes. You return to the ground via a 250′ zip line.”
If you have any questions about the course, please email Eric Henkel at firstname.lastname@example.org or call him at 924-3791. Please note that you will not be forced to do any activities you don’t want to do; the choice always will be yours.
This is going to be a total blast!!! Sign up soon because this trip is likely to fill up.
NEW NOTE: THE ADVENTURE WILL END ON SUNDAY AT OR BEFORE 6PM.
Outdoors at UVa provides:
The total fee per person is $15; UVa Outdoors will pay for half of your fee ($7.50) and the other half can come out of your club bux.
You must bring:
Please eat lunch beforehand, and bring along an afternoon snack and water, a pen to fill out & sign Poplar Ridge’s liability waiver form, and your car if you have one. Sneakers or boots are fine (though perhaps boots are more comfortable when standing on a steel cable, and if the ground is wet). As for clothes, wear something over which you won’t mind putting a rock climbing-type harness. Finally, you might want to bring sun tan lotion and/or bug spray.
