Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Three Ridges
Sorry for the last minute posting but it’s too beautiful a weekend to pass up hiking! This hike starts at the trailhead at Love Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway, sixteen miles south of 64, about 50 minutes driving time from UVA. We will join the Three Ridges trail and then head down the Mau-Har trail to some beautiful pools alongside Campbell Creek, amid lush groves of rhododendrons and mountain laurels.
There’s a lot edible and medicinal plants along the way, some of which we may stop to identify, especially blackberries. The pools may be a little shallow at this time of year for extensive swimming but are usually good for a refreshing dip. Total distance is roughly 6 miles along a sometimes steep and rocky trail in the woods with some views of the mountains.
Please bring: at least 2 liters of water, snacks, bug repellent, and a swimsuit if you’d like to swim.
The Club provides: gas money for carpooling and a seat in a car.
I will expand the adventure as drivers sign up.
