Wintergreen Resort
Let’s go hiking Saturday at Wintergreen, it’s not just for skiing as I recently found out. This is a description I found of the trails at Wintergreen:
Thirty miles of marked hiking trails, maintained by The Wintergreen Nature Foundation, ensure close-up, on-foot enjoyment of Wintergreen’s sensational mountain setting. Our trails vary in degree of difficulty, with many adjoining the famous Appalachian Trail. The extensive system located in the Stoney Creek valley includes three hiking trails in the valley. Lower Shamokin Falls Trail, a moderate 6 mile round trip, passes through Shamokin Gorge and Chestnut Flat along the Stoney Creek to the breathtaking Shamokin Falls, cascading several hundred feet at the end of the trail. Paul’s Creek Waterslide, a moderate 1.2 mile round trip, passes by impressive outcroppings of greenstone to arrive at Sliding Rock, a natural water slide and swimming hole. The easy .6 mile Stoney Creek Park Trail meanders along Stoney Creek and has picnic tables at both ends.
