Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
I’m not sure if anyone else also has a ton of presentations/papers/exams already, but I need some hiking to get me through it all! Weather looks pretty good this weekend, especially considering it’ll be December. For all of these reasons, it’s a great time to go hike Old Rag!
This is a very challenging hike with rock scrambles. If you’ve never done it before, make sure to read the description by following the Hiking Upward link below. It’s a 9 mile loop, and should take about 6 hours (including a lunch break). Since this hike goes along the ridge for a while, there are many opportunities for views.
The plan: Meet at Echols Dorm at 7:00 AM and drive about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get there. Hopefully by getting there early we will beat some of the crowds. It’s a very popular hike, especially on weekends. I have built in some extra time, so we should be back by 4:00 PM.

What you need:
-2L of water
-Park Pass (if you have one)
-I can only take 4 people until we have more drivers!
-drivers get priority off the waitlist. The club reimburses for gas +50% tip!
-drivers need to show up to Echols with a full tank of gas!
Priority for those with a Shenandoah Park Pass! Otherwise it costs $25 per vehicle. I have one Park Pass already.
