OVERVIEW

For those of you who don’t know what the triple crown is…

“The goal of the Triple Crown is twofold. First and foremost, the mission is to raise funds for two organizations dedicated to maintaining climbers’ access: the Southeastern Climbers’ Coalition and The Carolina Climbers’ Coalition. These two organizations have been instrumental in the acquisition of land for the climbing community, in a region that is riddled with access issues. Secondly, this unique event will once again provide a tremendous opportunity for vendors to promote the sport of bouldering, which has quickly become the focus of the ever growing climbing community.”

This is part one of 3 of the series, kicking off at Hound Ears. This bouldering field is only open once a year to the public during this competition only. If you want more info check out www.triplecrownbouldering.com

detailed info will be posted here: http://www.triplecrownbouldering.org/houndears.htm

Now for the important stuff…. First and foremost, if you want to join this trip, you MUST preregister for the competition (check out the above website and follow directions). Entrance is $50. While this sounds expensive, not only is this for a good cause, but that includes your t-shirt, and usually this comp is full of free swag. You will NOT be allowed to enter the bouldering field unless you are registered for the comp!

All levels/skills are welcome- it is broken down by ability level.

We will likely have a couple of different departure times, depending on drivers. I plan on leaving Friday October 5th in the evening. We’ll camp out Friday night, climb at the comp saturday, hang out with climbers/camp sat. night, then head back to cville sunday morningish after breakfast. Some people may be interested in driving back Saturday night after the comp and or more bouldering on Sunday, I’ll look into that once i secure enough drivers. Last year we had bad weather on saturday and the comp was moved to sunday, so please keep that in mind when planning.

What you provide.
-Entrance Sign up
-climbing shoes
-chalk
-climbing tape (for your fingers if you need it)
-crash pad (if you have one).
-sleeping bag/pad/tent if you have one.
-BYOB
-if you need camping/climbing gear please pick up from club gear room ahead of time
-cash (recommend bringing atleast 20$, more if you plan on participating in the numerous raffles they offer)
-personal snacks
…a note on crash pads… because this is a comp it is useful to have as many crashpads available, preferably one crash pad per one or two people, we may dedicate a larger vehicle to fit all our crash pads in. The more crash pads the merrier.

What club provides.
-camping/climbing gear if you need it (If you need camping/climbing supplies please pick these up ahead of time at one of the designated gear room times. If for some reason you can’t let me know and I’ll try and get ahold of the officers and arrange this gear for you).
-gas money (if you drive)
-camp site fee (we will likely be camping at grandfather campground see http://www.grandfatherrv.com/)
-breakfast and lunch on saturday, breakfast on sunday. Dinner will likely be on your own sat night the comp. They often offer a meal, last year it was borritos for 5 bucks, but they will eventually anounce details on their website.

Save the dates for the Stone Fort Comp October 13, and the Horse Pens 40 comp on November 3rd.

I will wait list everyone until I get more drivers to sign up (I can only fit 3 people in my vehicle with crashpads and cramming).
