Hugelkultur!? Morven Kitchen Garden workshop with swag (rotting logs) and fun (dirt) – take 2

OVERVIEW

If you weren’t able to sign up for this trip last weekend, you’re in luck because it got rained out! Soooo we’re going to Morven on Friday (but fr this time) to get our hands dirty and touch some plants!! Morven Kitchen Garden is UVA’s wonderful project in sustainable agriculture and is a wonderful place to spend a Saturday morning outside. This weekend’s volunteer day is also a workshop, so we’ll get the chance to learn about a sustainable gardening method known as hugelkultur which uses old, rotting logs to create a raised gardening area. There will be a little talk/Q&A about hugelkultur before we do the build too if you are interested in learning more about it.
This trip is beginner-friendly, and the volunteer work will mostly consist of moving logs and soil, digging, and spreading seeds. Be sure to bring water/snacks and clothes you feel comfortable getting very dirty and that match Friday’s weather.

The plan:
2:35 PM – leave from corner of Echols
3 pm – 5 pm– volunteer!
5:30 pm – back home

To bring:
-some water!
