I Spy A Hike on Sunday (Spy Rock Trail via Cash Hollow!)

OVERVIEW

Hey everyone!

This is a hike that I’ve had my eyes on for a while now. It is a ~7 mile, out-and-back, moderate hike located in the GWJNF with a bare rock face at the top that looks to afford near 360 degree views of the surroundings.

IMPORTANT!! – DRIVERS ARE NEEDED!! The road up to the trailhead (Meadows Ln) is marked as AWD only – it is a narrow gravel road with two low spots that may require higher ground clearance to cross than what my little Honda Fit can handle. Ideally, I would like to have two cars go on this trip, so please sign up if you have an AWD or 4WD SUV and are willing to drive! We will be leaving from the Echols dorm at 9:00am and we should get back to uva at around 4:00pm. It is about an hour and 30 minute drive to the trailhead from UVA. Please message me if you have any questions or concerns (757-778-7796).

WEATHER:
It looks like temperatures will range from 37-52 degrees Fahrenheit at the trailhead on Sunday (so probably in the 50s when we are hiking) – I suggest packing a jacket for when we stop and to consider wearing a long sleeve and pants. There doesn’t seem to be rain in the forecast.

You Should Bring:
– Hiking shoes/boots
– A hiking backpack or camelbak
– any snacks that you may desire and a lunch for during the hike
– About 1.5-2 liters of water
