The leaves are turning! The breeze is blowing! There’s a chill in the air! Whatever could you do with these perfect conditions except go on a totally rad, beginner-friendly backpacking trip to Bear Church Rock?? Join me and Loreley as we embark on a casual 8.4-mile out-and-back with a little more than 2k ft of elevation gain. Depending on our morale, we might hike most of it the first day, set up camp, summit for a majestic sunrise on Sunday, and then skip our way back to Grounds with refreshed spirits and not a care in the world (disclaimer: Loreley may have at least one care as she enters a very midterm-y week). We’ll be moving slowly and taking plenty of breaks, so if you’ve never backpacked before, this is the trip for you! As long as you, too, have the urgent need to take a deep breath of crisp mountain air right as you wake up in the morning, you should be set.

Loose schedule:
10:00am leave Echols
11:45am start hiking
5:00pm set up camp (maybe see sunset if we summit)
6:50am the sun starts to shine, we inhale mountain air and feel alive
8:00am begin descent
11:00am drive
1:00pm back home!
YOU BRING:
– backpacking backpack
– tent (we can coordinate sharing, too)
– sleeping pad
– sleeping bag
– comfy hiking shoes
– clothes to stay warm overnight (LAYERS!)
– rain jacket (just in case!)
– headlamp
– toiletries
– cooking gear (we were thinking of coordinating a group dinner, so we may be able to share)
– Food (again, we’ll probably coordinate dinner, but please plan to bring your own breakfast & snacks for hiking)
– WATER (2+ liters)

– Cards! Tea! Maybe fresh bread? You’ll have to join the trip to find out!
– Other backpacking things
– Hella jovial spirits
