Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Obed, TN
The Obed is located near Knoxville, TN, and is a major climbing area created by the eroding effects of a river on Cumberland Plateau sandstone. If that sounds familiar, it is because this is also how the New River Gorge and Red River Gorge were formed, and the Obed is of similarly high quality.
Expect sloper, jugs, and massive roofs (like, 40 feet of horizontal climbing once you hit 5.12. Click for an image: http://mountainproject.com/images/48/23/105914823_large_8c6cab.jpg). We’ll be looking to mostly hit 10s and up at Tierrany Roofs, Solstice Cave, Stephen King Library, Image Wall. The current weather forecast is sunny and highs of low-70s and lows of low-50s.
