Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Ohiopyle Falls
Let’s paddle the Youghiogheny River!
This is also the weekend of the Over the Falls Festival – the only weekend of year that boaters race over the falls! We’ll make sure to watch in awe. http://fallsrace.com/
**IMPORTANT**: The Lower Yough has about seven class III rapids. It’s tons of fun – as long as you spend most of your time breathing air and not counting fish. Check out the river details at: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1687/
To sign up for this trip, you must have enough experience to feel secure reading and running and self-rescuing in the case of a swim. It is highly recommended that you have a solid combat roll. Of course, everyone will do everything they can to help, but it should be clear that I am not confident enough in my rescuing abilities to be the “mother duck”. If you join this trip, you are accepting personal responsibility for your safety.
THE PLAN:
FRIDAY – We’ll leave Charlottesville at about 5 pm and camp at the Scarlett Knob campground. The drive should take around 5 hours. There will also be a car leaving from Richmond, so let me know if that works better for you.
SATURDAY – Paddle at 10 am. Hang out near Ohiopyle Falls to watch the over-the-falls race and the freestyle competition! Camp at Scarlett Knob.
SUNDAY – Paddle 9 AM. Drive back to Cville.
Fees: $3/day for river permits, $6/day for camping
