OVERVIEW

Come explore with me fellow mountain bikers! I’ve never biked this section of the GW National Forest but have heard good things about it. According to “Mountain Bike Virginia” by Randy Porter this 17 mile loop offers considerable aerobic difficulty and its technical difficulty ranges from “unobstructed double-track for the first half” to “rocky, technical single-track on the return trip.” The ride has some gentle climbing sections, some roller-coaster sections, and some steep ups and downs. There should be some spectacular mountain top views as well as a panoramic view of Page Valley.

Please do NOT sign up unless you have a good bit of mountain biking experience and are in decent shape. I can’t predict the length of time this ride will take since I’ve never done it and the average pace will depend on each rider’s experience level. Each will ride at their own pace and there will be several stops to collect the group and let everyone rest. It should take us ~90 minutes to drive to the trailhead (Massanutten Visitor Center).

You should bring your bike and helmet, warm clothes appropriate for biking (no baggy pants; the chainring will eat them), spare tubes, extra socks, plenty of water and snacks, money if you want to stop for snacks on the way home

The Club provides: Bike, helmet, some spare tubes, air pump
