OVERVIEW

There has been a lot of trail work done by the local mountain biking clubs at the trails around Sherando Lake. The usual ride is a 21 mile loop starts on FS road 42 at 1,595′ elevation, and takes you up to the top of Bald Mountain (3,587′), then continues down the Blue Ridge Parkway for a few miles to Slacks Mountain. From here the trail drops 1,677′ to Sherando Lake. There are a few side trails and different routes off the mountain that look like fun (all still ending up in a loop). A stop at the lake for a quick dip may be necessary. (From there it’s just a ride down the road to complete the loop. The scenery throughout the ride is spectacular and the ride itself is quite gruelling, so you should only sign up if you have trail riding experience. Its a long ride so be sure to bring plenty of water and sugary snacks. I’ve currently set the trip limit to 3 as that is all the bikes my car can carry. If we get someone else that can transport bikes, I’ll increase the size. The club also has a few nice bikes available if you need a bike.
