OVERVIEW

The trails near Harrisonburg could be the best in the state! Sure, I say that about every place I go, but this time I really mean it. I did this ride with outing club alum Kahlil (and Joat and Parish) a couple of years ago, and remember thinking, ‘This could be the best ride in the state!’ Reddish knob is a popular tourist site as you can drive to the top and see a magnificant 360 view with VA on one side and the WV on the other. We biked up the road then hit the trails at the top, making our way back down to the car. On this ride I’d like to pedal up from the other side of the mountain on a gravel road. The road ride was gruelling enough, so I imagine the gravel will be even more aerobic, so you must be in good shape to come along. The trails were very rocky and technical in a lot of places so you need to have some skills (more than Napolean Dynamite) to join. Sorry beginners, but I’ll do some local beginner rides within the next couple of weeks. If you’re not sure if you’re qualified, email or call me – dclark@virginia.edu; 962-9737. Please note that I’ve only done this once and was with someone who knew the area, so I plan on doing a bit of exploring which always (almost) 🙂 makes for a great adventure. May be we can find a watering hole nearby and grab some food on the way home so bring a towel and change of clothes and some ca$h.

The Club provides: Bikes, helmets, if you need them. Bike carriers for cars or SUVs.

You should bring: Bike, helmet, water, snacks, money for food, water, hydrate yourself before the ride, change of clothes, towel, sunscreen, spare tubes, and lots of water.
