Monticello Trail/Boardwalk Parking
James River - Richmond
This is typically a great time of year for intermediate WW kayakers to paddle the lower James River through Richmond. Old Man Winter does a good job of raising the water table and keeping the river at a consistent level. I suspect the level will dance between 4-4.5 feet for a while; perfect for intermediate paddlers. Normally I would let those join that have class 2 experience with a weak roll, but the cold water adds a serious danger factor so please do NOT sign up unless you have lots of river kayaking experience, plenty of class 3 rapid experience, a solid flat water roll, and love cold water.
Here’s the plan: meet at the new Monticello Boardwalk parking (off Rt. 20; click on link posted with adventure for directions) at noon. Hit the road promptly, get to Richmond then set up shuttle, and put in at Reedy Creek by 1:45. We’ll take our time running the class 2 and 3 rapids, then meet Emily P. at the take-out at 3:45-ish and run it again. After collecting the vehicles after the second run we’ll grab some warming treats at Legends after.
**Note that the departure time might change a little depending on how many people/drivers sign up.
