OVERVIEW

Couldn’t get onto NRG or didn’t have time for a full weekend trip but still need to scratch that primal itch to get out into woods far from civilization? Well, you’re in luck, ’cause this Saturday I’m headed out to Duncan Knob (+ a secondary peak called Strickler Knob) to see some reportedly gorgeous 360 views. Not only that, but we’re near peak senescence (fancy term for fall coloring) so there should be a whole canvas of reds and oranges to look out on.

Some things to note, this is very much an Intermediate trip. We’ll be doing a 9.5-mile loop in around 5 hours (plus a half hour break for lunch in the middle), and to get to the top you’ve got to go up a few rock scrambles, so be prepared for a tiring day. That being said, it is a day trip so you don’t have to bring nearly as much weight in your pack as if it were a 9.5 mile day on a backpacking trip, so if you’ve never done a hike this long before, don’t be intimidated to give it a go, I plan on taking it at a pretty average pace.

Lastly, we need drivers because I don’t have a car! Drivers get priority off the waitlist and get reimbursed for gas + 50% tip!

Schedule:
9:30 – Leave from Echols
11:00 – Arrive at Gap Creek Trailhead
1:00 – Eat Lunch on Stickler Knob Peak
4:30 – Finish Hike
6:00 – Return back to Cville

What I’ll bring:
– First Aid Kit

What you should bring:
– At least 2 liters of water
– Lunch + Snacks
– Shoes with decent traction
– Layers (We’ll be working out, but it’s supposed to be low 50’s and might be windy at the summit, so be prepared for that)
– A stomach filled with a good breakfast beforehand
