OVERVIEW

For all those intermediate boaters stuck in limbo between beginner and advanced kayaking trips – come with us to the Lower James this Tuesday! Dave and I will be taking a few people after work to hang out on the river and work on some skills.

About the River:
This section of the Lower James runs alongside downtown Richmond, featuring class II-III rapids including the well known Hollywood Rapid. See a description of the river here: http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1952/
The level is currently 4.6ft, but is expected to drop somewhat by Tuesday evening.

Who Should Sign Up:
Previous class II experience is required. If you have paddled the Rivanna, Balcony Falls section of the James, or Upper New, you are qualified for this trip. We’ll be working on some moves necessary for class III whitewater, including eddy catching, ferrying, etc. A decent flat water roll is recommended, but not required. You must know how to do a T-rescue! If you have any questions about whether or not you think you qualify feel free to email me. (I also welcome any advanced boaters who want to join and help out)

Club Provides:
Boats, gear, and gas $$$

You provide:
Your boat and gear if you have it, swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, money

Schedule:
We will be leaving from Echols around 5pm, arrive in Richmond around 6pm, paddle (~3 hours until nightfall = some flexibility) and return to Cville 10pm at the very latest.

Disclaimer:
I am NOT “leading” on this trip, I am only coordinating some logistics and transportation to the river, you are responsible for your own safety and you agree to have read and will abide by the American Whitewater Safety Code http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/Wiki/safety:start?

Those with the appropriate skills may join as “Common Adventurers”
