Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Come explore with me fellow mountain bikers! I’ve never biked this section of the GW National Forest but have heard good things about it. A friend of mine who is a former professional racer tells me it is his favorite ride. There are several VA rides that I want to do but this one is on the top of my list. I’ll see if I can find a description in a VA mountain biking guide book and then edit this description, but for now I will assume the terrain will be consistent with most of the rides in the GW that I’ve done: classic east coast single track with great climbs, long downhills, roller-coaster sections, and parts that are technical. The ride distance will be ~20 miles and I estimate it’ll take us 4-5 hours, depending on the experience level of the group.
Please do NOT sign up unless you have a good amount of mountain biking experience and are in decent shape. I can’t predict the length of time this ride will take since I’ve never done it, and the average pace will depend on each rider’s experience level. Each will ride at their own pace and there will be several stops to collect the group and let everyone rest. To screen your experience level you will get waitlisted upon joining and then moved to the trip list if appropriate.
You should bring your bike and helmet, warm clothes appropriate for biking (no baggy pants; the chainring will eat them), spare tubes, extra socks, plenty of water and snacks, money if you want to stop for snacks on the way home.
The Club provides: Bike, helmet, some spare tubes, air pump, some tools, seat in car, bike transport.
