OVERVIEW

If you are an advanced-beginner white water kayaker interested in taking your skills to the next level or are an intermediate paddler who wants to solidify your skills and prepare for the leap to class IV paddling, this is the class for you! It is being taught by UVA alum, Dave Kessmann, who is a level 5 American Canoe Association (ACA) kayak instructor trainer (bottom line: he has A LOT of teaching/guiding experience), on the Lower Youghiogheny river (aka Lower Yough, or LY) in PA: a dam controlled ( = nice, consistent summer flow) east coast gem which is a classic stepping stone in an east coast paddlers career. You will learn a ton from Dave and have tons of fun!

After you follow the link above you will find the requirements to be part of this class. If you feel that you are not quite ready but really want to be, drop me a line and we might be able to come up with a plan to get your skills where they need to be for that class.

So that I can screen your skills and assess your level of commitment, you will be added to the waitlist upon joining and moved to the trip list if appropriate.

My plan is to paddle with this class and help where I’m needed. Please note that I am NOT leading this adventure, but simply coordinating logistics. I will get work out transportation, lodging, some food, and a boat/gear if you need it. You are responsible for your own safety and will register, and sign a waiver, with the ACA upon joining the class.

You should bring: Your boat/gear if you have it, camping gear, food, water, money (please note that the adventure fee for this only covers the cost of this class and is in addition to the fee for the extravaganza, which covers some gas and some food). See also the “Laurel Highlands Extravaganza” trip description for additional info.

The Club provides: Boat/gear if you need it, Boat/gear transport, camping gear if you need it, some ga$, some food, lodging fees

**This is part of my “Laurel Highlands Extravaganza” adventure so please sign up for that, in addition to this adventure, if you are interested.
