Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
James River - Richmond
**Yes, I realize the east coast is to be ravaged by Hurricane Irene on Sunday, but the current projection is that the eye will “graze” the coast and may or may not affect Richmond. Sunday’s current forecast for Richmond calls for 60% chance of rain with 23 mph winds. Not too shabby. I will cancel if the weather is terrible, but cheers to some rain possibilities, eh? Now for my usual trip description:
Richmond offers a unique white water run with its class 4 rapids and skyline in the background. We’ll run this section of the James as it flows alongside downtown Richmond with some class 2, 3 and 1 class 4 rapid – area famous Hollywood Rapid. In order to be qualified for this trip you must have taken the intro trip with me or have similar experience, have lots of prior river experience in at least class 2 rapids, and have a decent flat water roll. So that I can screen your experience, and to make sure I have at least 1 driver, you will be added to the waitlist upon joining, then I will move you to the trip list if appropriate. If you have any questions please contact me via email at dclark@virginia.edu or cell at (434) 962-9737.
I will already be in Richmond paddling the section above this one (class 1-2), so will coordinate to meet you at the put-in for the lower run, or can coordinate to meet in town at 8:00 am if you’d like to join me for that run. The start time for this adventure is the time you will meet at Echols dorm for potential carpooling which I will coordinate if enough people sign up who plan to meet at Reedy.
The Club Provides: Boats, skirts, helmets/noseplugs, paddles, pfds, boat transportation if appropriate, gas money.
You should bring: your boat, essential gear, swimwear, towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, water, snacks, money for food after the trip
