Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Rocky Top Gym
Climbing is pretty fun. It might be intimidating to get into, but it’s absolutely worth trying! (You need no experience to go on this trip).
There’s lots of variety within climbing; learning how to belay is a fundamental skill that will keep you (well, the climber) safe. I’ll also go over some basic techniques that will help you save energy, and get up the wall more efficiently
In particular we’ll focus on top roping (the rope is already looped a secure anchor at the top of the climb). If you feel satiated with the top roping, but want to thoroughly tire your forearms, you’re welcome to boulder (no harness/rope, but you won’t climb so high as to need a rope). I expect we’ll stay for ~2 hours, dependent on how much energy everyone has, but have budgeted extra time in the start & end times for this trip.
We’ll meet at Echols at 5:30, get the gear we need, and head over to Rocky Top.
What you’ll need:
> Comfy/athletic clothes
> Your A-game
> $10 for a day pass
What the club provides:
> A ride
> Climbing shoes
> Harness
Lastly, if you decide you like climbing, get some practice in gyms, and then once the weather warms up, look for some sweet outdoor climbing trips!
