OVERVIEW

In order to take part in the trad climbing workshop (or even touch the club pro), you must have taken part in our intro to protection workshop held the previous weekend. Even if you already consider yourself to be an experienced trad climber, you still need to demonstrate your proficiency before we let you use our pro. For those of you trad climbing, you will be leading with a backup toprope (it’ll have plenty of slack though 😉 so there is no real problem with messing up.

We will also be toproping, which anyone who has climbed before can do. While anyone who at least knows how to belay can come to this trip and climb, the focus of the trip is on the trad workshop, as such, we will be implementing the following priorities for who can come. From highest to lowest order they are:
— 1 — You have taken part in the intro to pro workshop and have experience leading (sport or trad) this trip is for you!
— 2 — You have taken part in the intro to pro workshop, and can climb 5.10 or above.
— 3 — You have taken part in the intro to pro workshop, and can climb 5.8 or above.
— 4 — You have NOT taken part in the intro to pro workshop, but can climb 5.10 or above.
— 5 — Everyone else (includes beginners).

Because we are implementing a priority system, if you fall into priorities 1, 2, 3, or 4 and the trip says it’s full go ahead and sign up anyway. We will bump you up in front of people with a lower priority. If you don’t understand what I’ve said or are not sure if this trip is suitable for you send me an email.

Note that this trip occurs during fall break, so the following Monday and Tuesday you are free to do as you please since there’s no school.

Outdoors at UVa provides:

All climbing and camping equipment.
We will buy food at a market for Saturday and Sunday’s breakfast.
For Friday and Saturday’s dinner we will eat at the local restaurent (they have good cheap pizzas). Depending what time we leave, we can also have dinner there on Sunday.

You must bring:

Plenty of water, light rain gear, and lunches for Saturday and Sunday.
If you think you might want to have really big and expensive meals you should bring some extra money (in addition to the participation fee); but if you stick with the pizzas or similar items no extra cash is needed.
