Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend 2 hours on Saturday (3/21) on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list. I can expand the trip if multiple drivers sign up.
The plan is for you to meet at Echols at 9:30 (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 10:00, and be off the water between 12-12:30. I live south of town so will meet you at the park, and will coordinate with the drivers to pick the rest of the crew up at Echols.
The water will still be very cold, so please wear several non-cotton layers over your bathing suit, all of which will go under a wetsuit that the club provides.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, nose plugs, and wetsuits.
You should bring: swimwear, several non-cotton layers, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks.
