Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend 2 hours on Saturday (8/15) on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list.
The plan is for you to meet at Echols at 2:30 (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 3:00, and be off the water at around 5:00. I will meet you at the park and will coordinate with the drivers to pick the rest of the crew up at Echols.
**There is a fee to get into the park. It cost’s $3 for Albemarle County residence and $4.50 for everyone else. I entered $5 for the adventure fee to reflect this. You pay at the entrance gate.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, and nose plugs.
You should bring: swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, and sunscreen.
