Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend ~2.5 hours on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list.
The plan is for you to meet at Echols at 2:00 (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 2:30, and be off the water at around 5:00. I will meet you at the park and will coordinate with the drivers to pick the rest of the crew up at Echols.
**Please note that there is an entrance fee to get into the park. It is $3.00 for Albemarle County residents and $4.50 for everyone else. I have reflected this as $4.50 in the adventure fee.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, and nose plugs.
You should bring: swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, sunscreen, and park entrance fee ($4.50).
