Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
Every year I try to sneak one of these classes in before the NRGE and didn’t think I’d have time this go round, but my schedule for this weekend freed up a bit. So, for those of you whom I promised to lead one of these in mid-October: change of plans!
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend ~2.5 hours on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list. I might be able to expand the trip if multiple drivers sign up.
The plan is to meet at Echols at 10:00am (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 10:30, and be off the water at around 1:00.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, and nose plugs.
You should bring: swimwear plus non-cotton layers, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, lunch if you’d like, and sunscreen.
