Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
We’ll spend 2 hours Thursday afternoon on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning the basic skills you need before getting in a white water kayak and paddling down a rapid river. I’ll teach you the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. I’ll need 1 or 2 driver for this, so the first driver to sign up is automatically in (I will move his/her name onto the trip list if appropriate), and I may be able to expand the trip size if multiple drivers sign up. Please be prompt to Echols so that we can get started on time. I’ll give everyone 5 late minutes before we hit the road.
I’ll be doing another intro class on Saturday, 4/14. Please do not sign up for both unless you are >5th on the waitlist (people always bail at the last minute or don’t bother to show up).
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, nose plugs.
The water will be a tad chilly so wear several non-cotton layers (e.g. capilene, polypropilene, neoprene, fleece, wool). The air will be warm enough so that you will dry quickly after you swim (and you WILL be swimming for at least one excersise…he he he). If you don’t have non-cotton, don’t worry about it, the water temp won’t be that bad and you won’t be out there for very long. Just be sure to bring something nice ‘n warm to change into after. Also, don’t forget your towel, swimwear, water, and snacks.
