Walnut Creek Park
This class is designed to teach you the basics of white water kayaking: information about white water (ww) kayaks and associated gear, how to paddle and maneuver a ww kayak, wet exiting, T-rescues, and recovery techniques. You will also have the opportunity to learn the Eskimo roll. This trip goes out “rain or shine” but may get canceled for Lightning.
I will be meeting you at the park; the plan is for you to meet wherever is convenient on campus or in town and carpool to the park, or just drive yourselves separately. As such, I will need drivers for this. Everyone gets waitlisted upon joining and then I will move the first driver to sign up onto the trip list followed by the first 4 to sign up. If more drivers sign up I may be able to expand the number of attendees.
The Club provides: Kayaks, pfds, sprayskirts, helmets/noseplugs, paddles, kayak transport
You should bring: swimwear (bathing suit, river shoes/booties/aqua socks though footwear is not necessary), towel, change of clothes, sunscreen, water, snacks.
Entrance fee to Walnut creek park is $3-5 depending on if you claim to be an Albermarle co resident or not.
RIVER TRIP POSSIBILITY:
I don’t know exactly when I’ll be getting back into town on Sunday so don’t want to commit myself to anything longer than a Lake Trip, but if it ends up being earlier than currently expected – there’s a possibility we can get an earlier start on the day, and add some downriver time.
