Intro to Whitewater Kayaking: Learning the Basics on a Lake

OVERVIEW

This class is designed to teach you the very basics of white water kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend ~2.5 hours on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning such skills as the wet exit, how to paddle a white water kayak, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll (but this is NOT a roll clinic). Since I will need at least 1 driver for this, I will put everyone on the waitlist and move the first driver to sign up, and then the first 4 or 5 who signed up, onto the trip list. I may be able to expand the trip if I get multiple drivers.

The plan is for you to meet at Echols at 9:00 (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 9:30, and be off the water at around 12:00. I will meet you at the park and will coordinate with the drivers to pick the rest of the crew up at Echols.
Please don’t sign up unless you are certain you’ll be able to make it to this adventure. No-shows deprive people of spots. Don’t despair about being on the waitlist as people often drop as the trip gets closer. The top 2 or so on the waitlist (I’ll let you know if this is you) may want to have their stuff packed and ready to go in case of a last minute cancellation or no show.

You should bring: swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, sunscreen.
