Echols Dorm: Brick Wall By Side Door
Walnut Creek Park
Intro to Whitewater Kayaking
Roll Session
This class is designed to teach you the very basics of whitewater kayaking, to prepare you for future river trips. We’ll spend about 2 hours on Sunday (9/2) on the lake at Walnut Creek Park (~10 miles south of town) learning skills such as the wet exit, paddle strokes, T-rescues, and the Eskimo roll. Everyone will be waitlisted until I look over Q & A and work out logistics.
The plan is to meet at Echols at 4:00pm (please be prompt!), get out to the park by 4:30pm, and be off the water around 7:00pm.
**There is a fee to get into the park. It is somewhere between $3.50 and $6.00 please bring cash to pay at the entrance gate.
The Club provides: Boats, spray skirts, pfds, paddles, helmets, and nose plugs.
You should bring: swimwear, towel, change of clothes, water, snacks, and sunscreen.
The water is still warm, wear one non-cotton layers (e.g. capilene, polypropilene, neoprene, fleece, wool). The air will be warm enough so that you will dry quickly after you swim. If you don’t have non-cotton, don’t worry about it, the water temp won’t be that bad and you won’t be in the water very long.
