OVERVIEW

Let’s enjoy the warm and sunny end-of-summer Virginia weather in the best way possible this Sunday: ON THE JAMES.

This trip to the James is intended for intermediate-level paddlers who have paddled whitewater before or attended some pool sessions. We will be doing the lower section (Reedy Creek to the 14th St. takeout, which is full of fun class II-III whitewater to test your skills and get some thrills! Please note that this is intended to be a speedier lap, so that I (Sarah) and any officers on the trip can get back to Cville for our 7pm meeting to keep this club epic.

The river should probably be 3-5 feet depending on what the weather looks like over the weekend, which is a relatively approachable level and should be great for our purposes (if it gets up over 5 feet, we’ll likely cancel/reschedule, since it may be a little too rowdy for this go around).

The lower section (III) through Richmond (https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/1952/main).

Rough Timeline:
1:00pm – Meet at the corner of Echols dorm, confirm gear fits
2:30pm – Arrive at Reedy Creek and set shuttle
3:15pm – Paddle
5:30pm – Get off the river, and grab cars
7:00pm (or earlier, hopefully earlier) – Arrive back in Cville

*These are rough estimates, we may be back slightly earlier or later.*

WHAT WE BRING

Notice – Whitewater sports are inherently dangerous. We lead trips at a level where we feel confident about our ability to keep people on our trip safe. Your safety also depends on you and your honest communication of your abilities and state of being, as well as respect towards any safety advice. You are expected to be an active participant in your own rescue.

*Drivers (particularly w/ a roof rack) will get priority off the waitlist and gas reimbursement + tip! For details, check out our club policy elsewhere on the website*

Text me (Sarah) if you have any questions! (678) 579-4727
