OVERVIEW

Hello everyone!!! Get psyched cause this Friday is JMU’s Reach Out Climbing Competition. I don’t know a whole lot about the event, but everyone I’ve talked to over the past few years says it’s an absolute blast!

What it is (how it do): It’s a climbing competition at JMU’s ~35ft art indoor wall which draws climbers from all over the region. Points are usually given per climb you climb with harder climbs given more points than less hard. You register in any one of three categories (beginner, intermediate, advanced), so any skill level is welcome!

Who: I plan on meeting up and hanging out with the UVa climbing team for much of the day so get psyched to meet some other awesome climbers here at UVa.

When: This Saturday, 7:30 am – 7:00 pm.

Where: We’ll leave from the SAB parking lot near the stadium where the climbing team will be meeting. We’ll hang out with them for a little while, share some stories of the rocky gnar and be on our way.

Why: Cause climbing is sweet, duh

How: I can put four other people in my car so we’re fine up to that many, after that we’ll need to have another driver, but I’m fine taking however many as long as there are still registration spots.

*****VERY IMPORTANT*****
If you want to come you MUST sign up online at https://www.jmu.edu/recreation/adventure/reach-out-climb.shtml and pay the $25 fee, otherwise you might not be able to get in. Also do it quickly if you’d like to come! When I last checked there were only 21 spots left, and those are going quickly!!!!

Bring?:
Anyways try to bring a harness, optional belay device if you know how to belay, chalk, and climbing shoes. The gear room will be open this Thursday, email the officers before Thursday if you cannot make it. Also try to bring a lunch, and snack bars. Food + Climbing go very well together. Finally bring water! 1L is probably fine, but more will probably serve you well.

Anyways, come climb at an awesome event this weekend with me and the UVa climbing team! See you all there!
