Hey hey hey time for another collab, but this time with JMU! We will be going to one of my all-time favorite caves, Lowmoor! This was an old Iron mine in the late 1870s-90s that broke into an actual cave. Huge rooms, lots of wildlife, beautiful formations, ancient cave graffiti and fossils, and so much more. This is also a stellar beginner cave as there are no difficult climbs or crawls! So join us for one of the last cave trips of the year!
NEED A DRIVER YOU GET PRIORITY!
Schedule:
9:00 Meet at the Croner of Echols and head West!
10:30 Meet JMU peeps at Loves and drive to the cave, get ready, and do a safety talk
11:00 Start caving!
16:00 Leave the cave at the latest
16:30 Drive to an epic Mexican restaurant in Staunton and gorge on good grub (if this is a financial constraint for you, let me know and we will figure something out)
Gear List:
Caving helmet
No fewer than 2 working headlamps with spare batteries
Gloves
Knee pads (optional)
Water
Snack/Lunch
24-hour emergency food supply (just anything that can last you a day’s worth of meals)
A container for any human waste – pack it in, pack it out (old water bottle or screwable tupperware)
Clothes that can get dirty/ripped/ruined (long pants and long sleeves- please try to avoid cotton)
Closed-toed shoes that can get dirty/ripped/ruined
At least 1 spare light (can be a headlamp, flashlight, or even your phone )
A bag or backpack that can get dirty/ripped/ruined
Clean clothes/shoes for the car
A trash bag for hypothermia kit (hefty trash bags are good)/trash bag for dirty clothes, shoes, and backpack (make sure it’s big enough)
Important notes:

– You should be comfortable crawling around in tight spaces and being in the dark.
– Because caving is such a dangerous sport, I will be very strict in ensuring you have the proper equipment (i.e., if you are not properly equipped with EVERYTHING mentioned above, you are not entering the cave).
– It is a good idea to not have anything massively important scheduled for the evening of the trip in the unlikely event we are delayed
