OVERVIEW

Being able to roll your kayak back up after you tip over is essential in reaching the advanced level of white water kayaking as well as play paddling. This class will teach you the mechanics of the eskimo roll, with several variations. I’ll provide instructions, as well as pictures from the book that tought me.

This class is for experienced paddlers who want to learn, work on/improve their roll, or just take a boat out to practice paddling. Please DO NOT sign up unless you have taken the introductory class with me or have similar experience in a white water kayak. I will be holding more introductory classes this summer.

I will be meeting you at Walnut Creek Park (click on the link posted with the adventure to get directions) so will need you to drive yourself, but I will try to organize carpooling. Assuming someone signs up who is willing to drive, I put down the meeting place for the adventure as Echols dorm. Contact me with any questions – dclark@virginia.edu; 962-9737.

Note: There is a fee to get into Walnut Creek Park; $3/person for Albemarle County members, $5 for non-county members. However, the last few times I’ve gone with friends in seperate automobiles who were non-county members, they were only charged $3. But please bring $5 if you fall under the non-county member category, just in case. Please feel free to hang around the park before and/or after the class to enoy other park activities like trail hiking, running, and/or biking, disc golf, swimming at the beach, grilling, frisbee, or just relaxing in the sun.

The Club provides: gear (boat, skirt, pfd, helmet, nose plug, paddle)

You should bring: bathing suit, change of clothes, sunscreen, water, snacks, whatever else you might use to entertain yourself in the park (before or after the class), park entry fee, hope & optimism!
