WE’RE BACK again with a kayak roll session. For those fanatics out there who haven’t been able to get their hands on a kayak over the summer, come and see if you’ve still got it. Pool sessions will start up soon with more instruction targeted for beginners, but this trip is aimed at people who have some rolling experience already, as wet exits are more of a pain in a lake than they are in the pool.
I’ll be leading trips to the lower James soon, so if you just want a quick refresher on your roll before we head out there this is the trip for you.
For an idea of what you’re getting yourself into and to help you learn to roll as fast as possible, check out this short video the great John Woodward put together (youtube.com/watch?v=Gz-QZ2jAlH4 ). It shows how to roll from an underwater perspective. Not to mention some sick tricks and real-time rolls in the wild. If you watch this video a bunch or any other C to C roll videos you can find, you will learn much faster and easier. Mental reps!
Timeline:
5:30pm: Meet at the corner of Echols Dorm, head to WWL to pick up kayaks
5:45pm: Get to locker and strap on kayaks
6:00pm: Leave for Beaver Creek
6:30pm: Hit the water and ROLL
7:30pm(or whenever): Strap kayaks back on and head out
7:50pm: Put kayaks back in locker
8:00pm: Drop off wherever you desire
What to bring:
Swimsuit/clothes that you feel cool swimming in
Towel and change of clothes for after
Water
optional: goggles and earplugs / nose plugs
optional: your own pfd, skirt, helmet, paddle, and boat if you have it (let me know)
WAITLIST POLICY:
If you are on this waitlist you are committed to coming on the trip! Please remove yourself if your plans change. Participants will be selected from the waitlist on the basis of their kayaking experience and attendance record. Participants, especially those at the expert level, willing to instruct or give advice to others will receive priority over others at their level.
