Kayak Skillz! | Flatwater Kayaking for ALL LEVELS

OVERVIEW

Hey all you slimy eels!

The weather is wonderful for a nice Friday afternoon of kayak enjoyment. This is a trip meant for everyone interested in kayaking – EVEN IF YOU HAVE NEVER KAYAKED BEFORE! We will be hanging out at Darden Towe Park on a nice calm and flat stretch of the Rivanna River to paddle around and work on our kayak skills. There is even a small rapid we can play around in! Myself, and any advanced kayak peers who join us can serve as kayak knowledge resources.

This trip is for:
– those who have never kayaked before but are interested in doing so!
– those who have kayaked before and are looking to improve their skills. maybe you want to learn or improve your kayak roll?
*the kayak roll is the practice of self-righting after tipping over a kayak!*
*If these don’t apply to you but you’d like to come paddle, you’re more than welcome! we cannot however provide you with a kayak/watercraft*

The Plan:
2pm: meet at corner of echols dorm and get in cars
– go to the whitewater lockers at carruthers hall to pick up any gear we need
– go to darden towe park
– have an epic paddling sesh
4:30pm: head back to the whitewater locker
5pm: everyone is off to the rest of their friday night!

What to bring:
– proper clothes and shoes to get fully immersed in!
– a water bottle and snacks if you’d like
– a towel and change of clothes if you’d like
– sunscreen and/or bugspray if you’d like
– any kayaking gear you have (PFD, skirt, helmet, kayak, paddle)
