kayaking the James in Richmond

OVERVIEW

I plan on heading out to Richmond to kayak the lower James this Saturday. This trip is for beginner AND advanced paddlers. For beginners, or those who have little, but some paddling experience, we’ll put in on the upper section at the Pony Pasture parking lot and run this 5 mile section through class I and II rapids. After this section, novice paddlers can return to C’ville and more advanced paddlers can run the 3.5 mile lower section with me through mostly class 3 rapids with 1 class 4. Do not sign up unless you have prior paddling experience. And do not plan on running the lower section unless you are at least a solid intermediate who has been in at least class 3 white water. Due to the logistics I will need drivers for this trip. The trip may get canceled depending on the weather/water levels. If you own your own gear and can transport it you don’t need to sign up, just email or call me (760-2739).

kayaks, paddles, skirts, pfds, helmets, nose plugs

You must bring:

food, water, sunscreen, towel, change of clothes, swimwear, footwear that can get wet, money for dinner
