OVERVIEW

ATTENTION ALL TRAIL RUNNERS, MOUNTAIN BIKERS, AND WHITEWATER KAYAKERS:

We want YOU to help represent Outdoors at UVa at the King of the James! This is a Run-Bike-Kayak triathlon, hosted in Richmond, VA each fall. You can participate as an individual or as a team with a different team member doing each leg of the race. If you’re doing a team though, its up to you to find members capable of completing each leg of the race. So grab your friends and sign up!!

This trip is primarily for carpool logistics, but also feel free to reach out to me via email if you have any questions or have trouble finding members for a team. If you’re ready to commit, its on you to register on the King of the James Website (https://kingofthejames.com/).

If the video doesn’t get you stoked to sign up, I don’t know what else will: https://player.vimeo.com/video/113977515

Also check out the race website here for much more info:

More details about the course:

*Trail Run: The “Forest Hill Loop,” a ~3.2 mile section of trail in Forest Hill Park.
*Mountain Bike: Fairly technical ~10 mile section of the Buttermilk Trail. More info here: http://rvamore.org/trails/jrps/
This isn’t a beginner course, and previous experience is helpful for navigating this section.
*Whitewater Kayak: ~2.5 miles down the section of the James River through the city. There are 2 class III rapids, so previous experience paddling this particular section is required. There will be safety out on the course for any swimmers, so if you’ve paddled the James mildly successfully before, you should be able sign up for this leg. Race Fee:
$35 (This includes a t-shirt)

Schedule:
Check-in is from 8:00-8:30am, so we’ll need to leave town fairly early. I’m setting the meeting time to 6:30am for now, but this is subject to change. Race starts at 9:00am. The race/post-race isn’t expected to take long, so we’ll be back in CVille by early afternoon.

I don’t know if any other college students from Richmond will be participating this year, but if so, lets show them that UVa is King!

NOTE: You are responsible for your own safety during this race. This is a highly technical course and you should be confident in your capabilities and stamina before signing up.
