Lead Climbing at Reeds Creek

OVERVIEW

This trip is for the new or new-ish lead climber. The idea is that we will take two climbers early on in their lead climbing career for some 1-on-1 (or realistically more like 2-on-2) attention so that the trip attendees can get a lot of lead climbing and belaying experience and walk away feeling at least a little more confident in leading. If you have recently learned to lead or feel like you would like some practice and mentorship leading/lead belaying, this trip is for you!

We’ll be climbing at Reeds Creek, which is a limestone climbing area with a good number of moderately graded sport routes in the 5.8 – 5.10 range (see Mountain Project: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/109444384/reeds-creek).

Reeds Creek is a 2-2.5 hour drive from C’ville, so the plan is to head out early at 8am (folks can sleep in the car if needed) to maximize climbing time before returning to C’ville in the afternoon around 7pm. We’ll aim to get to the crag around 10:30am and climb until 5pm or so. You should bring all the personal gear you’ll need, along with water and some snacks/lunch.

We’ll bring group gear including:
– quickdraws
– rope
– stick clip
– anchor building materials

YOU bring personal gear and rations:
– harness
– helmet
– climbing shoes
– ATC (or other belay device)+ locking biner
– chalk + chalk bag (optional, but recommended)
– PAS and/or other personal gear (optional)
