Learn to Clean workshop (climbing)!!

OVERVIEW

Do you know how to lead and are looking for that last piece of the puzzle in being a climbing trip leader— the elusive cleaning technique—- ??? GREAT. In this workshop we will teach you how to clean an outdoor sport route! We will walk you through the process of safely removing an anchor from a sport route, leaving no personal gear behind. We are leading this to get people closer to being able to lead intermediate climbing trips for the club!

The shred shack has shiny new ground anchors (thank you Ed and Ben for making us cool tree anchors!!), where we will practice cleaning from the safety of the shred shack backyard.

We will walk you through two cleaning methods, including a single-strand clean and cleaning off a bite, so you will be prepared to clean safely from a variety of outdoor anchors. If we have extra time, we’ll also walk through how to set up a quad!

Though this workshop is an amazing opportunity to practice cleaning, it does not mean that you should go clean a route without supervision!! This is just to get you more familiar with the process and ready to be supervised when you clean a route from a real life anchor!

What to bring
– Yourself
– Your personal harness if you have one
–WARM LAYERS, ITS GONNA BE COLD!

We will bring:
– Ground anchor
– Practice rope
– Cleaning knowledge!!!
– Cleaning gear, including personal anchor systems and locking carabiners
– Harness if you don’t already own one.

Schedule:
4:30 pm: meet in shrack backyard
4:30 – 5:00 pm: walk through steps of cleaning
5:30 – 6:00 pm: cleaning practice, quad-building practice if we have time
