OVERVIEW

Part 2 is here!!

Howdy folks,

So, how do you get the rope up there in the first place? Many a toprope climber has asked that same question, and this Friday afternoon we’ll be learning how. If you want to climb outdoors this spring, you’ll want to be able to lead climb. It’s like toproping, but more betterful.

Luckily, we have access to a wonderful RVA gem called the Manchester Wall. Located right on the James River in Downtown Richmond, Manchester is the perfect place to learn how to lead climb, offering easy routes with lots of bolts. It’s where I learned to climb, and it is my pleasure to carry on that tradition.

If time allows, we’ll also cover anchor cleaning and rappelling (super fun skills everyone should know), and maybe toprope on some harder routes

We’ll head out at 1:00 on Friday, drive an hour or so to Richmond, climb for probably 4 hours, maybe grab a snack, and be back around 8. Trip limit will be based on skill level of attendees, but will likely be capped at 4 or 5.

**Priority will go to those who already know how to top-rope belay (or are finishing up from last time), but don’t worry! There will be lots of chances this spring to learn to toprope and lead belay!

You need:
-Harness
-Climbing shoes
-Chalkbag
-Water
-Readiness to learn
(I’ll take care of ropes, belay devices, etc.)

I’m cautiously optimistic about the weather. If things deteriorate, we’ll probably go to Peak Experiences instead (but you’ll be free to drop out without penalty if that happens)
