Disclaimer: This is a trip for NRGE so please sign up for the main carpool (https://outdoorsatuva.org/adventure/nrge-2024-main-carpool/) and pay the trip fee after you have been let onto this trip! You cannot go on this trip if you are not also on the main trip!
Have you been top rope climbing for a bit and are ready to take your skills to the NEXT LEVEL??? Join Anusha and Cam at NRGE as we dispel our ~lead climbing knowledge~ upon you! Our first time climbing ever was at NRGE 3 years ago… we are soo old now… so ready to pass on our wisdom to the next generation of odc climbers!! (If you are ready to be imparted with our immense knowledge…)
This will be a Saturday NRGE trip! We will gather up our group at Ray’s Saturday morning and head to the crag to get crackalackin. We have not decided what crag yet, but are planning on somewhere with a good range of climbs (5.7 – 5.10 ish) and very stable belaying spots.
YOU MUST BE A CONFIDENT TOP ROPE CLIMBER AND BELAYER TO SIGN UP FOR THIS TRIP.
We also want to bring a few experienced lead climbers who want to learn how to teach others / refresh their skills!
On this trip, we will go over:
Setting up routes
Lead belaying technique
Lead climbing technique (proper clipping, commands, common mistakes to avoid, etc.)
Lead falling technique
The goal of this trip is to have everyone try their first lead climb! BUT we will start off with mock leading and belaying and then assess whether everyone is ready to truly lead climb after going over and practicing the basics.
Disclaimer: we reserve the right to “ground” anyone who we think is being unsafe. Examples include not paying attention while belaying, throwing rocks, fooling around near cliff edges etc. This is a serious sport and we want everyone to be as safe as possible. If you have questions about safe climbing please email the officers or text/email one of us directly.
