OVERVIEW

The Leonid Meteor Shower (aka lots of shooting stars) peaks in the wee morning hours of Saturday the 18th and we should be watching! My plan is to go to Humpback Rocks, or at least the farm, and watch the meteor shower.

We will meet at Echols dorm at 11:15pm and hopefully leave shortly thereafter. Right now I am letting everybody on, however, if there are not enough drivers I may have to move some of you to the waitlist. This trip is extremely weather dependant. I will cancel by 7:00 that night unless it is going to be mostly or totatally clear.

I am going to bring some hot chocolate. If anyone else would like to bring something (snack, coffee, more hot chocolate, etc), I’ll put a spot on the signup. If you have a large thermos or something for hot water, please let me know. Otherwise I’ll bring a stove.

You bring: warm clothes (don’t forget hat and gloves), headlamp/flashlight, travel/camp mug (for the hot chocolate), something to sit on (ie – sleeping pad), WATER (at least a liter, so we each carry a little wait for the cocao).

Club provides: carpooling, gas, headlamps for those who don’t have them

PS – I have a bit of an education in astronomy, so I’ll try to answer questions and will explain what causes meteor showers.
